Vacancy – Policy Officer (M/F/X) – Belgian Permanent Representation to the OSCE

Are you multilingual, passionate about international politics, and looking for a challenging position in Vienna? Join the Belgian Permanent Representation to the OSCE as a Policy Officer and contribute to shaping Belgium’s multilateral diplomacy.

Job Description

As Policy Officer, you will manage a portfolio of OSCE-related files, provide analysis, and represent Belgium in negotiations and meetings. You will work under the supervision of the Permanent Representative and Deputy, within a dynamic diplomatic team.

Main Tasks

  • Act as file manager and subject-matter expert for specific OSCE areas: monitor developments, analyse issues, and provide advice to our authorities to help define Belgium’s positions and defend its interests.
  • Represent Belgium in formal and informal meetings and negotiations: defend Belgium’s positions, draft reports, briefing notes, and political analyses.
  • Prepare national and EU statements, speaking points, and contribute to public diplomacy and social media activities.
  • Support organizational tasks: draft official correspondence, manage agendas, and assist with official visits.

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in International Relations, Law, or related field.
  • Excellent knowledge of Belgian foreign policy, EU, OSCE, and international politics.
  • Languages: fluent English; native-level French or Dutch with good command of the other.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Team player, flexible, integrity-driven, and service-oriented.
  • Sense of autonomy and responsibility.
  • Experience in Belgian diplomacy, EU institutions, or international organizations is an asset; knowledge of human rights or multilateral affairs is a plus.

Vacancies at the OSCE


Internships


The Permanent Representation of Belgium to the OSCE in Vienna offers a limited number of internship opportunities for young university graduates and graduates. Interns rotate into the daily work of the Permanent Representation and get a unique opportunity to gain experience in a multilateral environment.

Interns are mainly responsible for preparing files, attending and following up on meetings and reporting on the meetings.

A relevant university education is important. A good knowledge of Belgian national languages and English is an asset.

In principle, internships last 3 months.

These internships are not remunerated and are in principle reserved for nationals of the European Union.
